Microsoft Skydrive gets better sharing features

Microsoft continued to enhance its cloud-based storage service SkyDrive by adding and improving new features such as sharing, drag-and-drop and HTML5 for SkyDrive.com.

SkyDrive group program manager Omar Shahine said these improved features were introduced to ring in the New Year.

"You now have a single, unified view into how each of your files is shared so you can more easily control who has access to your files. We’ve also added more HTML5 features for touch devices making the SkyDrive experience faster and more fluid across devices and we’ve introduced more drag-and-drop capabilities to make it easier to manage your files, photos and documents," Shahine said in a blog post (http://blogs.windows.com/skydrive/b/skydrive/archive/2013/01/08/improved-sharing-amp-new-html5-features-for-skydrive-com.aspx).

Shahine said SkyDrive.com now has an integrated view of sharing permissions, for those who share files on various platforms like email, Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn.

Users can now select a document and click Share in the command bar, then see all the different ways to share the item as well as who has access.

Another improvement is for selection of items for touch-based devices, where a user can select an item or multiple items by swiping on the item to the left or right.

Drag-and-drop support has also been improved, where users can now move files to anywhere in the hierarchy of SkyDrive.
Other improvements are under the hood which won’t be visible to the user, "but are designed to make SkyDrive.com even faster and more reliable," Shahine said
